Tips to Increase Battery Life on X10

There’s no denying that the Xperia X10 does drain its battery quickly, however there are some simple tips to get the most out of your battery and will significantly enhance your X10 battery life.

1) Charge/discharge battery a few times initially
When you first get the X10, you will need to cycle the battery from full charge to near empty at least 4-5 times. Many complain when they first use the X10 that it discharges too quickly. It is only once you’ve properly charged it a few times will you start to see an improvement in battery life.

2) Turn off automatic widget updates
This includes weather updates..etc .They constantly  download data and drain your battery.

3) Lower screen brightness
Go to Settings –> Sound and display –> Brightness and deselect the ‘Adjust automatically’ tick box and lower the brightness of the display to save on battery life

4) Turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off
Make sure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is only switched on when needed.

5) Disable Internet connection when not needed
Goto Settings –> Wireless controls –> Mobile networks and deselect ‘MMS & data’.You can always switch it back on when you need to browse, use apps etc.

6) Disable Wireless network usage for location purposes and GPRS when not needed
Go to Settings –> Location and make sure ‘Wireless networks’ is not checked. Also uncheck GPS Satellites and Assisted GPS when not required.

7) Disable Auto Update for X10
Goto Setting -> About phone -> Software update and make sure Automatic Search is not checked.

8) Update your Phone to the latest Firmware
At present the latest firmware released by Sony Ericsson is R2BA026 for Xperia X10. Using SEUS or PC Companion update your phone to the latest firmware.

9) Lower screen timeout time
Go to Settings –> Sound and display –> Screen timeout and lower the time interval before your display locks out. I have mine timed to 1 minute but often tend to lock my screen without waiting for the screen to lock itself once I’ve finished with it.

10)  Lower frequency of Facebook, Picasa, Twitter updates
Go to Settings –> Online service accounts and then click on the drop down arrow next to the service you want to change (Facebook, Twitter, Picasa). Click on ‘Update automatically’ and lower the frequency of updates. I have mine set to Never for these services.

11) Disable automatic update for Timescape
Goto Timescape -> Setting and make sure update automatically is not checked.

12) Disable push email for Moxier Email
If you are using Moxier Email then make sure you have the push email deactivated as its a real battery drainer. My Phone gives me up to only 7hrs backup when Push email is activated.

13) Use Advanced Task Killer to kill apps when not in use
One of the big benefits of Android is the ability to multi-task. However, there is no way to close apps that you’ve used. Every application that remains open is using processor power, which in turn is draining your devices battery. This is where task management apps such as Advanced Task Killer (freely available from Android Market) is useful. They should be used to close apps that you’ve finished with, although make sure you don’t force close any processes used by Android. You can ask me in the comments section for any doubts regarding the usage of this app.

Summary:
Xperia X10 does have a battery life issue. But with the help of these tips you can surely get a good battery life on X10. Currently with normal usage my phone easily gives me 2-3 days of battery life. But if I have my push email activated it gives me hardly 7 hrs. So it depends on the usage from person to person.

  2. @Anonymous: If you follow what's mentioned in the point 4 & 5 Turning wifi off and MMS & Data off respectively then no application will be able to connect to the internet until and unless you enable them.

  4. @Anonymous: If you just have the wifi enabled and your X10 is connected to a wireless network(WiFi) and also made sure that MMS & Data is disabled then it won't pick your Cellphone's Service Provider's data network and will only pick the wifi network you're connected with...
Also I have noticed on my X10 Wifi is given priority over MMS & Data. So even if you have both(wifi & Data) enabled X10 will use Wifi for Internet.

PS: Just to be on safer side and see which one is in use. check the logo on the top of your x10 next to the display time.'E','G' or '3G' is for data network and several lines in pie shape is for WiFi.

    Hope that helps :)
