Rooting Your X10 - Tutorial

Rooting your Android device is much like jailbreaking an iPhone. Once rooted, you can make your phone run faster, tether it to your computer, tweak hidden settings to your liking, and more.
Rooting  means giving yourself root permissions on your phone. It's the equivalent of running programs as administrators in Windows, or running a command with "sudo" in Linux. There are a number of great reasonss to root your Android phone, highest among them being speed (through custom ROMs and through overclocking), tethering, and installing apps and widgets from other builds.

As per now no one has been able to hack the bootloader for Xperia X10. So installing custom ROMs is not possible.

Advantages:

1) Ability to uninstall apps that you don't require like moxier email (Although I use it since it has push email),timescape, mediascape or any unwanted branded app.
2) Ability to tether with your PC or make your X10 as a wifi router/modem by using apps like "Barnacle wifi tether".
3) Ability to install "Titanium Backup App" from android market .It is the only app which helps you backup the whole content of your phone on to your SD card.

Disadvantages

None as per new rooting method, since its a reversible process but yes there are risks involved in rooting your phone

1) You might brick your phone if not done carefully.
2) You  may uninstall/remove an app which is essential for your phone to function
3) It Voids Xperia X10's warranty.

Warning : Rooting your Android phone might void your warranty and rooting is a risky process and if done incorrectly, could brick your phone. So, please read the steps carefully before your proceed and do ask me in the  comments section if you feel stuck at any point! Please take responsibility of whatever you do to your phone.
